J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has demanded that the statehood for the area should be brought back. There are various historical events for giving Article 370, removal of the article, making it as Union territory etc.

The aspirants can review the past and put forth their comments and discuss the demand.

We shall have the following in our mind..

  1. Necessity for bringing up Article 370.
  2. The events from 1947 to till the abrogation of 370.
  3. Abrogation and after.
  4. Present scenario of the state.
  5. Opinion of the people of J&K.

Newspaper is not just current affairs, it is ultimate for General Studies..

Most of the aspirants for not only UPSC, any competitive exam leave out the newspaper by saying that it is only for current affairs. UPSC, SSC people read the one year events. Banking aspirants need just 3 months' capsule.

But, Newspapers are the best material for Genreal studies.

For example, see the image. The Hindu has published a news item and the headline is this. We know that the Government has announced that the census will be done in 2027. But, that is not all. From this news item, we shall explore more. RGI's role, authority in Constitution, history of census, social, economical, educational parameters etc can all be referred here and we shall have a look on all these aspects.

Editorial pages are treasure for the aspirants. Sometimes, they are ready-made answers for many UPSC Mains questions. SBI PO aspirants can have a great day on interview and group discussions.

One area that is definitely missed by even those who are regularly reading newspaper is "Letters to the Editor". Those comments are of the nature of our writing. The readers are commenting and not professions. We may feel like we have written it. More clarity comes up when we read those letters. We shall also start commenting, without bothering whether it gets published or not.

Analysing the data given on the news item will be a booster for not only General studies topics, but for the CSAT and for every other exam.

The beginners should spare more time to newspapers.
