A thought-provoking article from KP Nayar, Strategic Analyst published in The New Indian Express(02.07.2025). I am just posting some of the points that came into my mind after reading.
Do we have to talk to Pakistan..?
As a neighbouring country, you cannot ignore Pakistan. We need to engage them. There is no doubt.
What KP Nayar says is that if the talks are held on the terms of USA, it will be a setback for India. He quotes various instances from the past where the USA talked about "Good Terrorists". The present President of Syria, Ahmed al Sharaa, despite his regime's atrocities, he remains a good terrorists for the West. He also quotes one experience in which the then US Ambassador to India, Frank Wisner II, said that the Pakistanis were "good terrorists" because they had consistently supported US interests in South and Central Asia.
What does it mean?
The country's rules can be terrorists, undemocratic, autocratic or in any illegal manner. They should act as sub-ordinates to USA. This is what is the doctrine of USA.
What is India's position?
India, since 1947, has resisted such attempts. That is continuing under the present Government also. We do not accept any third party interference in any issue regard to the neighbours. India has taken a clear stand on terrorism. That was evident on recent SCO meeting in which a joint communique could not be released due to India's opposition. In his article, KP Nayar points out India's effort to eliminate the concept of "Good terrorists and bad terrorists" when India became elected member of the UN Security Council in 2011.
A lot more are there to read and analyse in the article. Please go through.
