How many times has the BJP been defeated by the Congress party?

Congress might have scored more victories over BJP since 1980, statistically.

All these does not matter in the present conditions. The point here is parliamentary elections are approaching and the Congress needs to take on the BJP. In the concluded elections, the Congress had a rude shock in Chattisgarh, where they were expected to win. Do not take us granted was the message from the people of that state. People have not taken the charges of corruption lightly. The politcal narration of the BJP during the campaign revolved around that.

Kamal Nath

On the other side, some leaders like Kamal Nath are taking soft-Hindutva line to counter BJP. He must remember that such strategies will only help BJP. Instead of concentrating on the political issues, the Congress unit of Madhya Pradesh took the suicidal path of toeing the BJP line.

Rajasthan

We cannot just brush aside the results of Rajasthan as “change in every 5 years”. May be, this sentiment was very exploited by the BJP. They could make the people understand that all is now well with the Ashok Gehlot led Government.

Importance of political narration

In fact, Congress could fix the political narration in Karnataka on the corruption plank and came out victorious. This is what has been done by its Telangana unit. Success in Karnataka had its echo in Telangana. Otherwise, the Congress was being pushed to third place. They could shrug off the complacency and brought back the confidence of the people.

2024 elections will be like the final of the Cricket World cup. The earlier victories and the losses will not matter. The political narration of the political parties during that period and the acceptance of that by the people of this country will decide the outcome.
